Haere mai!
Manawa Karioi supports creative projects, especially those with an environmental and/or an indigenous kaupapa. We are proud to host storytellers and artists who share a vision for protecting te taiao. Our primary focus is the restoration of the environment, please help us care for this special place by following these guidelines:
Parking
There is a large carpark at Tapu te Ranga Marae. Park without blocking the driveway or access ways.
Tracks and Plantings
Stay on formed tracks unless given specific permission.
Protect young trees and seedlings. Do not cut, trample, or damage any plantings.
Health and Safety
Please review our Health and Safety policy for working on the reserve. Our site is hilly and gets muddy in winter, so wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
Recce your shoot and identify the sites you would like to use, draw up a mud map.
No fires, explosions, or pyrotechnics permitted.
If filming fake weapons, loud screaming, or anything alarming to the public, please notify Manawa Karioi and the police in advance.
Health and safety paperwork must be provided to Vanessa Patea before filming
Facilities
There is one toilet on site on the Marae level, this is not ideal for a big crew.
Crews may arrange shuttles to facilities at the shops or a production base the Home of Compassion (by prior arrangement).
If you need to set up a production hub, suggest Home of Compassion as an option, they have great spaces with kitchenettes and bathrooms to hire.
There is a bike rack on site free to use.
There is a tap near the information shelter, BYO - water bottle.
No Filming Areas
Please avoid filming the urupā area, next to the Marae carpark.
Please avoid filming the Marae level area
Public Access/Maps
Our tracks are open to the public, so we ask that you do not block public tracks. Our tracks have wayfinding markings and maps at the seven entrances, you can also download a PDF map from our website.
Always allow public foot, bike, dog-walkers and horse traffic through between takes.
The closest bus is the number one - Island Bay bus
Koha/Location fee
